Seniora Active Living Club: A Month of Learning, Laughter and Active Ageing in Johor Bahru

By Seniora Care Centre | Active Ageing in Johor Bahru

Growing older does not mean slowing down. At Seniora, we believe ageing should be filled with purpose, friendships, learning and joy. That is why we launched the Seniora Active Living Club, a weekly community program designed specifically for older adults who want to stay physically active, mentally engaged and socially connected.

Over the past month, our club welcomed seniors from different backgrounds to learn, exercise and have fun together. Every Wednesday morning, our centre at Pelangi Avenue, Johor Bahru was filled with laughter, conversations and new experiences.

July Program - Seniora Active Living Club

A Club for Seniors, By Seniors

The Seniora Active Living Club was created with a simple idea: seniors should not only receive support, they should also continue contributing, sharing and inspiring one another.

Social connection and meaningful activities play an important role in healthy ageing. Research has shown that staying physically active, mentally stimulated and socially engaged can help maintain independence and improve quality of life as we age.

Our club provides exactly that — a welcoming community where older adults can continue learning and discovering new interests.

Week 1: Practical Exercise to Prevent Muscle Loss

We kicked off the month with a practical exercise session focused on preventing muscle loss.

As we age, muscle strength naturally declines, increasing the risk of falls, frailty and loss of independence. During this session, participants learned simple and safe exercises that can be performed regularly to maintain strength, balance and mobility.

The response was encouraging. Many participants shared that they had never realized how important strength training is for healthy ageing.

Week 2: AI Class – Creating Pictures with Artificial Intelligence

Who says technology is only for young people?

Our second session introduced participants to the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Seniors learned how to create their own pictures using AI tools, turning imagination into colourful artwork within minutes.

The room was filled with smiles as participants proudly showed each other their creations. It was a wonderful reminder that learning never stops, regardless of age.

Technology can empower older adults, boost confidence and keep the mind active. This session proved that seniors are more than capable of embracing new innovations.

Week 3: From Walker to Independence – Understanding Walking Support

Walking aids are not a sign of weakness. The right walking support can improve safety, confidence and independence.

In this educational session, participants learned the differences between walking sticks, quadripods, walkers and rollators. More importantly, they learned when each aid should be used and how family members can better support their loved ones.

Understanding mobility support allows seniors to stay active while reducing the risk of falls and injuries.

Week 4: Board Games – Playing What the Youngsters Are Playing

We ended the month with something fun and refreshing: board games.

Participants explored modern games that are popular among younger generations, creating opportunities for laughter, teamwork and friendly competition.

Beyond entertainment, board games also stimulate memory, attention, problem-solving skills and social interaction. They are a fantastic way to keep the brain active while building meaningful relationships.
